I have six of those of different years

Okay. I'm staring a 1980D dime down right now, sitting in front of me. What is so special about this that makes it valuable?

While they are supposed to be in mint sets, it isn't absolutely out of the realm of possibility that someone, for some reason or another, may have stolen such a set and taken the change out and spent it. Or it is possible that somebody's ungrateful grandchild inherited one and decided coin collection wasn't in their wheelhouse and opted to spend it. Even if people were to send their non-mint marked 1975 dimes for grading, even if it were a Proof that had been accidentally/incidentally placed into circulation, even for 20 years, that mint grade finish (could) still end up looking like well kept, circulated dimes from the same period. Heck! I have older dimes than this one that still look relatively new. And, like most people, I have dimes from 20 years ago that still look like they were just unrolled for the first time. So...how does one know, without question, that the 1975 dime they are staring at isn't one of these mystical gems, waiting to be cashed in on?

The US has never made a penny silly monkey. These are cents. Also, I don't think anyone can retire I'm not much money in 2024. Just saying.

I found a bicentennial that has a very shiny coating that appears almost gold. It has several spots of tarnish on the coating. Any idea why it’s so shiny?
